Electrical fitter (power lines)

 Duties:

Power-line electrical fitters are responsible for analysing, preparing, designing, fitting, wiring and testing electrical distribution and protection equipment. They perform these duties paying constant attention to safety, for themselves and all other people at the site. In addition to these general duties, specific technical duties vary with the speciality.
Service sector:
Prepare cable routings and device locations
Wire up and set up lighting system and other low-power appliances
Check fitting and connection of main distribution and secondary panel boards
Check correct operation of equipment
Analyse diagrams to determine devices required

Substations and distribution boards:
Set up and connect high-voltage bays
Set up and connect HV-LV transformers
Set up and connect distribution boards
Start up systems

Industry:
Perform tests, measurements and adjustments according to specified procedure, ready for system startup
Keep abreast of new technologies (automated equipment and new systems)
Perform work in production units

Maintenance:
Identify electrical and mechanical failures
Locate and troubleshoot mechanical, electronic and electrical failures
Repair and start up equipment

Electrical fitters also convey a positive image of the company. They perform their duties in such a way as to ensure uninterrupted service and equipment availability. They provide clients with technical advice. They perform their allotted tasks within the specified times, and contribute to proper management of the supplies and equipment required in their jobs.
 Educational background:

A-levels, technical diploma in electrical or
   electro-mechanical engineering
